Co-founded in 1978 by Chris Cutler, London-based ReR Megacorp remains a musician-led independent label after almost 40 years. Blithely disregarding market wisdom, it continues to release titles across a wide spectrum of genres.
ReR is home to cult bands This Heat, Henry Cow, Faust, Art Bears, The Necks...
The Limitations Can Make You Creative LP is a collection of The Death Set's Rad Warehouses Bad Neighborhoods and To albums on one piece of wax, courtesy of the band and We Are Busy Bodies, under license from Morphius. Although we originally offered this very limited edition title only to select stores, we recently discovered some extra copies. Sure to become a collector’s item, this will not be repressed!
Originally formed in Sydney, Australia during 2005, The Death Set relocated halfway across the world, settling between Brooklyn & Baltimore. Immediately on arrival they began dishing out incendiary live shows all over the place, shortly followed by Morphius’release of their debut CD To. That EP, along with The Death Set’s performances, earned them awards such as Baltimore City Paper’s Best Live Band 2006, and Best Show of 2006 from Pitchfork contributor Girl Talk (from a Pittsburgh performance with Dan Deacon).
In late 2006, after a short break from U.S. touring, the band travelled back overseas for an east coast Australian tour which included major launch parties. After wrapping up production on a new batch of songs, visual artist Beau Velasco and gifted producer/frontman Johnny Siera returned to the U.S. to complete their follow-up CD release: Rad Warehouses Bad Neighborhoods.
Still sporting jury-rigged equipment and throwing down fuzzed-out distortion laden vocals, The Death Set picked up right where they left off with 12 great genre-smashing tracks to entice a diverse group of listeners with the band’s addictive popart parody. Everpresent are their blistering signature co-leads and searing guitar riffs, set against ingeniously crafted post-casiotone backing tracks.
Johnny Siera has assembled various other lineups since the departure from the band of co-founding member Beau Velasco in 2006, and continues to tour heavily, having played hundreds of shows worldwide since the band’s signing to Counter Records/ Ninja Tune in 2007. Velasco passed away tragically on 9/27/09. This record includes all the album tracks Beau played on during his time with the band.
