Laughing Man is a Washington DC based trio comprised of Brandon Moses (vocals, guitar), Michael Andrew Harris (drums), and Luke Stewart (bass, saxophone). During the last year the band has quietly garnered a good amount of blog and local-DC attention. The trio creates an incredibly eclectic collage of sound derived from elements of jazz, garage rock and soul music—one that's not all together easy to put into words. The Lovings ('63-'69) is the band's debut album and combines the tension and energy from the band's live show with a cultivated, mature studio effort. Singer, songwriter Brandon Moses brings a message of, well, love, with The Lovings. The record is inspired by the last three years, including friends, family, and the band's experiences in its two homes: Washington, DC and Philadelphia, PA. The record also pays homage to the band's musical roots, namely the roots of American music. And as such, the album has cultural implications. Aesthetically, it is inspired as much by Nas, as it is by Howlin Wolf, John Coltrane, and King Crimson.
