Imagine if, at a childhood birthday party, your parents surprised you with a candy-stuffed cannon instead of a piñata and let you light it off, spewing treats, like falling stars, upon your giddy friends. ‘Best birthday EVER!’ you’d surely shout. Now, let’s say someone was able to capture that feeling of awe and glee in music: thunderous loud and so fun you hyperventilate. That band would be Ponytail: a baby-faced foursome of bright, noodly guitars, thrashed drums, otherworldy mewling, and an ineffable joyousness that bubbles up like pop rocks in a glass of cola. As tight as they are freaked, strange as they are accessible, Ponytail will froth your spirit into shape. Featuring Dustin Wong of Ecstatic Sunshine and garnering national press before they even released their debut Kamehameha, Ponytail bursts like roman candles, shot loud and proud from the weirdo spazzcataz percolator of Baltimore’s warehouse party scene.
